Medals

Medals

I finally had time to display my medals in my new place. I hung some of Kai’s medals on the racks as well. The first thing Kai said was, “I want to run more races so I can get more medals”.  I promptly suggested he start training for an upcoming 5K race in November. He normally signs up for the Kids Fun Run, but now that he just turned nine, he feels that he needs to sign up for a more challenging race. I feel that he's ready for a bigger challenge and plan to prepare him for it.  I love that he's learning from me.  Children need great role models as well being encouraged to achieve their desired goal. Since his birth, he's experienced me coming home with medals I've earned not only for finishing a race, but also for placing in the top three of my division.  He's also the proud owner of two quilts featuring all my race t-shirts which he looks at as a "story board", for each race has a story behind it, and his inquiring mind wants to know each story. I'm glad he sees my legacy not only in the medals I've earned, but also the quilts he owns.  I hope that these memories of his "Moms" as he calls me inspire him for years to come.
